Ischemic Colitis is a form of Colitis where inadequate blood supply causes inflammation and injury to the large intestine. Generally, the older population suffer from this form of Colitis which is characterized by symptoms of systemic changes (low blood pressure etc) or local changes (blood clot).

Fexofenadine is a potentially harmless drug as compared to its competing drug, ternafedine. Unlike other anti-histamines, Fexofenadine does not enter the brain from the blood hence causing comparatively less drowsiness. This makes Fexofenadine Ischemic Colitis treatment a pretty good option.

What are the symptoms of Ischemic Colitis and how does treatment with Fexofenadine help the patient?

Ischemic Colitis occurs in three progressive phases as described below:

Hyperactive Phase – This is the stage where primary symptoms are found in a patient suffering from ischemic colitis. The most common primary symptoms is severe abdominal pain. In some cases, the patients' stool samples will include traces of blood.

Paralytic Phase – If Ischemia is not detected and cured, it will continue and will cause the abdominal pain to spread to for degenerative symptoms of the abdomen.

Shock Phase – This is the stage when ischemia enters a very critical phase. Patients who are suffering in this stage of ischemia require tremendous amount of care, as ischemia causes the colon lining of the intestines to get damaged and which will allow fluids to leak through them. The most common symptoms found in patients across the three stages are abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, diarrhea and fever.

Fexofenadine is recommended in the form of two 60 mg doses daily or one 180 mg dose daily. It would be advisable if fexofenadine is taken with water not fruit juice. Taking fexofenadine would mean alleviating a whole lot of symptoms which characterize Ischemic colitis. It is a very useful antihistamine in a sense that it does not enter the brain through the blood like the earlier ternafedine. This saves the patient from potentially fatal side effects though minor side effects like Nausea, Vomitting can be experienced by the consumption of the Fexofenadine drug. It is these side effects that enforce the fact that any fexofenadine drug must be consumed in the prescribed dosage, and more importantly, you should take the drug on a doctor's prescription.

In other words do not go shopping online for it just because of a TV commercial extolling it's virtue. As with any prescription drug treatment for any illness, a doctor is going to want to monitor its effects on you. That is not to say that everyone taking the drug will have side effects, it is simply good practice to know what they could be when taking any type of prescribed drug, for any kind of illness.

The good news about Ischemic colitis, is unlike some other forms of digestive disorders, it can be cured if caught at a very early stage and properly treated. Though, Fexofenadine is not the only way of treatment, it is proved itself to be pretty effective as a Fexofenadine Ischemic Colitis treatment.
