Colitis Dilate is a term used to signify the intestinal dilation which is a symptom of colitis, mostly in ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is an intestinal disorder which is found in the mucuosa of the colon and if not diagnosed at the right time may also lead to the patients suffering from colon cancer.

What is Colitis Dilate?

Colitis Dilate is also referred by many as intestinal dilation. It is a life threatening disorder of other intestinal disorders. A patient diagnosed with intestinal dilation may report an inflated colon, abdominal pain and fever or rise in body temperature at times. This can be caused as a complication of the Ulcerative Colitis and the Crohn's disease.

When can one diagnose the presence or the appearance of Colitis Dilate?

When a patient is suffering from Toxic or fulminant colitis, localized ileus and peritonitis are formed due to the transmural extension of the ulceration. The term toxic dilation is not often used by doctors and scientists due to the clash of opinions over the existence of the toxic inflammatory waste and the fact that the consequences of such a waste could be observed even without the frank megacolon. An intestinal dilate is treated with surgery as the best possible method to ensure that the size of the bowel is reduced. If this objective is not achieved within 24 hours of the diagnosis, a colectonomy can be performed on the patient. Colectonomy is the surgical removal of a part of the colon or the entire colon itself. If the intestinal dilation has arisen out of an active IBD, it can be treated with the help of anti-inflammatory drugs or corticosteroids. Although, due to side effects, doctors do exercise extreme caution in administering corticosteroids to patients, corticosteroids can nevertheless be extremely effective as a short-term emergency treatment.

How can one manage Colitis Dilate?

By following some simple rules regarding diet and drugs will ensure that the patient will be able to control intestinal dilation. Patients are advised not to eat raw fruits and vegetables as eating vegetables and fruits in their raw forms may cause trauma to the colonic mucuosa. Anti diarrheal drugs which are used to treat intestinal disorders must be used with extreme caution because excess of these drugs may increase and solidify the dilation.

If a person complains of severe abdominal pain accompanied by fever, he/she should immediately call a doctor, or get themselves to an emergency hospital of clinic. The presence of fever with abdominal pain is not something to be treated casually as your body is telling you that something serious is happening with it.
